I don’t really consider myself a fan of Bofill’s work (lately we’ve seen his home and studio, a converted cement factory, all over tumblr).
But this is impressive. Kafka’s castle indeed. architecture as mental torture. I shouldn’t like it but I do.

found it !
okay, I’ll admit it. I’ve been a little obsessed. More than a little, even. Ever since the helicopter sequence at the very beginning of inception, I’ve been meaning to find out more about this building. Today I took the time to do my internet investigation and this is what I found out.
It is called “Izumi Garden Tower” and you can find it HERE, in tokyo. It was apparently built by the largest architectural office in japan, NIKKEN SEKKEI. But I couldn’t find the reference at their website. It sits right on top of a metro station.
If you do an image search, you’ll find out I’m not the only one who thinks that these nine extruded squares packed together are extremely cool. I love the idea of a building that is its own skyline. But I couldn’t find any inception-related references to it.
Now, a request : does anyone happen to have a floorplan of the building ? I’d love to know exact proportions _ i’m guessing something like 30 m x 30 m as a base, but would love to know for sure. ALSO, what is the crazy hat building in the last photo ? anyone ?

BONUS : I also found out that the parisian café scene in inception was filmed very close to my place, HERE. and check out THIS VIDEO as well.

I think this image goes quite well with one of the themes of my tumblr. michael wolf’s portfolio has some really nice images of urban cliffs and some of the consequences of urban life. really worth taking a look.

the best photographic expo I went to last year was michael kenna’s at the bibliothèque nationale, rue richelieu.
